We are looking for a Team Leader to promote the rights of MSM (men who have sex with men) as well as to promote the organisation and its activities within designated communities being served and supported by us. The incumbent will lead and coordinate a team of Outreach Workers and manage diverse events that promote enhanced health outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Project Coordination
    • Provide supervision and guidance to the outreach team in delivering services to the community.
    • Develop and implement activities to facilitate and encourage health seeking behaviour.
    • Ensure that all records of activities are well managed to ensure effective data collection.
    • Supervise outreach staff by providing guidance and coaching in their performance and development plans.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting according to Anova requirements.
    • Identify, meet and establish working partnerships with community stakeholders.
    • Ensure that the necessary staff and systems are in place to ensure quality implementation of the outreach programme.
    • Perform duties as assigned by the Outreach Manager.
  • Administration and reporting
    • Perform general administrative and reporting functions.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to the outreach team in delivering services to the community.
    • Planning and organising activities.
    • Organise transport for Outreach staff when they do clinic visits.
    • Transport materials for distribution purposes.
    • Ensure timely and accurate narrative reporting according to donor requirements.
  • External liaison and networking
    • Coordinate educational talks and activities that address the sexual health needs of high-risk populations.
    • Identify, meet and establish working partnerships with community stakeholders.
    • Serve as a liaison person between the project and the community.
    • Coordinate an active interface between the Anova and diverse community organisations, NGOs and CBOs, including clinics, community health centres.

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Grade 12 or Matric.
  • Post Matric qualification will be advantageous.
  • HCT certificate.
  • Relevant experience in working with the MARPs group concerned.
  • Basic knowledge on HIV/STI/TB information.
  • Experience in HIV prevention and treatment.
  • At least 5 years’ outreach or community mobilisation experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a counsellor.
  • Able to travel extensively and work flexible hours.
  • Must have a driver’s license with PrDP.
  • Ability to keep neat, accurate, and complete records.
  • Ability to motivate, lead and monitor a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals and groups.
  • Experience in working with MS Office.
  • Fluency in local languages.
