More than 200 people from the Kliptown community were tested for TB at the first of 10 Family Wellness Days hosted by HIVSA, a non-profit organisation that aims to strengthen community linkages to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support, and Anova Health Institute in partnership with [dot]GOOD.
A number of wellness tests such as eye testing and HTC stations were also popular with 102 and 50 people utilising it respectively.
“As TB screening, eye testing and HTC were the most visited stations at the first event, people are clearly taking advantage of the variety of health tests at their disposal,” said Programme Manager at Anova Health Institute, Dr Moyahabo Mabitsi.
“We have partnered with Anova Health Institute and employed the services of [dot]GOOD, South Africa’s leading for-good marketing agency, to visit communities in desperate need of quality health care services,” said CEO at HIVSA, Jean Armstrong.
“All the work done by HIVSA and Anova is made possible thanks to the support of the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID),” continued Armstrong.
Managing Director of [dot]GOOD, Michael Baretta, added: “Campaigns like these are essential in educating and informing communities about the importance of prevention and testing for HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.”
“Opportunities like this do not come around every day. It is so important that community members make use of the services at their disposal and ensure a healthier future for themselves and for their loved ones,” continued Baretta.
According to the organisers, there are many more Family Wellness Days set to take place around Gauteng over the next few months.
