Anova conducts ongoing research in conjunction with its various HIV interventions. This research is both complementary and integral to the effective running of its projects and is frequently complemented by the subsequent development of training materials, manuals and other publications.

Anova is committed to a leading role in relevant and innovative research, especially in the emerging field of implementation science. Anova has established international links with international universities including University of California San Francisco, Emory University and VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Locally Anova works with the Universities of Cape Town and the Witwatersrand.

Key areas of research interest include PMTCT, men who have sex with men, medical male circumcision, HIV in older women, and HIV treatment in adults and children including hyperlactatemia in children.
