The Paediatric Infectious Diseases Unit (PIDU) at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital provides highly specialised treatment and care for children with infectious diseases and children with HIV who are seriously ill.
It is also a key paediatric research hub, focusing on the diseases of childhood, and is the only centre in South Africa for a paediatrician to train to the level of Infectious Diseases Specialist.
Anova supports and educates doctors and nurses treating HIV-infected children at community clinics, developing provincial, national and global paediatric treatment guidelines, and it conducts research in the fields of paediatric HIV and TB.
