HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT)
Anova supports the government’s commitment to test as many South Africans as possible (The new HCT campaign endeavours to test 15 million people by July 2011). Part of this is a concerted publicity drive to normalise knowing one’s status, a principle that is enforced in all of Anova’s projects.
In particular, Anova is committed to supporting innovative projects that will reach out to communities that have limited access to HCT and that will provide access to services to those who have difficulty accessing these services (for example during working hours).
In 2009, a total of 65 294 people were tested at Anova-supported initiatives – of whom 47 percent were men. A concerted effort is being made to target men in all campaigns, as they are often reluctant to come forward for testing.
