Antiretroviral Treatment (ART)
Whilst HIV may not be curable, antiretrovirals (ARVs) present a significant breakthrough in the management of AIDS. With proper medical attention and a commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, HIV-positive persons can lead relatively normal lifestyles.
At the end of September 2010, a total of 76 409 people were on antiretroviral treatment (ART) at Anova-supported public health sites. The majority were in Gauteng (33 648), followed by the Western Cape (20 269), Limpopo (12 379) and Mpumalanga (10 113).
Anova is instrumental in the management of ART at clinics run by the following of its projects:
- Tirisanong (Gauteng)
- Khutso Kurhula (Limpopo)
- Rivoningo Lesedi (Mpumalanga)
- Western Cape Winelands (WC)
- Farms Project (WC)
- Groote Schuur Hospital (WC)
- Tygerberg Adults (WC)
- Training: Nurse Initiation Management for ART Training (NIMART)
