How is Anova structured?

The Anova board comprises John Moalusi (chairman), Thandi Chaane (member), David Douglas (member), James McIntyre (Executive Director) (UK) and Helen Struthers (Chief Operating Officer).

Under the directorship of James McIntyre and Helen Struthers, Anova strives to improve health through building relationships of trust with all stakeholders and partners to reach those most in need and the communities in which they live.They are supported by staff numbering over 350, comprising professional and lay health workers and administrative personnel. Continuous staff development ensures quality service and ongoing community workshops enhance delivery.

John is currently CEO and Executive Consultant of Bridging the Gap. He is an expert in Human Resource Management and General Management. He has over 20 years executive management experience.

 

 

 

David Douglas – Member

David is a Director of Ratio Corporate and Douglas & Bhamjee Inc. Chartered Accountants (SA). He is an expert in Project and Financial Management, Supply Chain Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Financial Investigation, Mediation and Arbitration.

 

 

Thandi Chaane – Member

MPhil (Maternal and Child Health)
 
Thandi trained as a nurse and is currently Chief Director in the Gauteng Department of Health. She has worked in the department for many years and is an expert in public health, in particular HIV/AIDS, STI and TB as well as maternal and child health. She received the Women of Strategy Award on Health.

 

 

 

 

 

 

James McIntyre - Executive Director

James founded the Perinatal HIV Research Unit with Professor Glenda Gray in 1993, which has developed into one of Africa's foremost and largest AIDS research centres working in HIV prevention, treatment and care and vaccines. He is an expert in PMTCT and his interests lie in MSM and woman’s health. James leads the CIPRA-SA "Safeguard the household" collaborative South African research programme, funded by the US National Institutes for Health.

 

 

 

 

 

Helen Struthers - Chief Operating Officer

MSc, MBA

Helen has a master’s degree in applied mathematics and in business management. She has worked in HIV and related services and research since 2001. Aside from managing service implementation, her interests are in the social aspects of HIV, in particular men, including men who have sex with men and male circumcision.
